Gameov3r is changing!!

Postby Matt on Thu May 21, 2009 9:49 pm

This doesn't mean he turned over a new leaf and that's he's going to be nice to anyone. No. Not in the slightest. In fact this change, more of a disruption, to his sleeping/gaming pattern could tip him over the edge. It may tip us all over the edge!

I'll keep you in suspenders no longer... although... no ... what this does mean is that the forum is changing. As of the 1st June, yes that's the 1st June - a mere 10 days away, our wonderful, yet slightly short of the odd node or two, hosts Freeforums are forcing us to upgrade to PHPBB3. We currently use PHPBB2.

There are positives to come. We hope! This change will bring new features to the boards, including an arcade where everyone can play classic games and post their scores on our very own leader boards. There will be new options for you to tweak your profile etc, etc.

The forum will certainly look a bit different and things probably won't be where you left them. In fact, anything you expect to be where you left it will no doubt have morphed into something entirely, but not exactly, different. Confused? You will be!! It may take a while for everyone to get settled back in after the switch. Some of you won't be too fazed by this while others might not have used PHPBB3 before. We'll create thread where you can ask for help about any forum related problems and post up some FAQs too. This will be a thread for everyone so ask away and if you can help out a struggling Gameov3rite please do!

We're not sure exactly how the transfer will go but knowing Freeforums it'll be relatively seamless. Seamless meaning that there will be no seams and everything will be in a heap on the floor.

Please bare with us on this as the 1st of June approaches and for the weeks following while we get everything sorted. You're positive thoughts, wishes, prayers and monetary donations are all warmly received.

Thanks

Crikey! :o I thought you meant that GO was considering wearing his other pair of pants!! (Not before time).

Anyhoo, thanks for the "heads-up" (dontcha just love that phrase). I am confident that the ensuing chaos and head scratching will provide hours of innocent fun and frolics...

Due to the efficiency that we have come to know and love from freeforums I wouldn't be surprised if the chair ends up in the fire. If by some miracle you manage to prevent this from happening then I'm sure no-one will mind you calling the chair your own.

I also feel quite pleased when a round of drinks comes to exactly £10/£15/£20

Although I wouldn't refuse the change if it was due...

As for the continue? I have a cunning plan. More cunning then a cunning fox's most cunning plan. I'm going to run at him. Again. It hasn't worked before, which is why continue? will never expect me to try again...

I think it should transfer everything over .. .. .. all the threads, all the data, everything. But it might not.

 Very reassuring... but absolutely spot on :?

We set up a test forum to have a little play and it looks quite positive. Fingers crossed nothing gets smashed or broken during the move... the Caffreys looks like it'll make it, every single can has already been bubble wrapped.

The wife says that "change is bad" !!! I have to say, when we moved her old office the photocopier was dropped down concrete stairs. And that was by professional movers ....

So I suspect something will not make it out alive. I will double bubble wrap the aspidistras and my mug and keep my fingers crossed for Fifi's pouffe !!!

Personally I embrace change. Bring on the chaos and confusion. Who needs to know where to find things anyway ?? Where's the fun in that??

Don't panic !!!
**** hilarity to follow ****

Last day for 'old Gameov3r' as we know it.

I hope the change goes smoothly, which I'm sure it will as the Caffreys has already been bubble wrapped.
Damn!
